St. John's
 From Ken's Desk

January 3, 2010:

From Ken's Desk This week is the hinge week -- the time between the major holiday of Christmas and the forward-looking anticipation of a new year. At this point, we’re reminded how Jesus is with us. He’s even called Emmanuel, meaning "God is with us." Because of the nativity of Christ, we know how far God is willing to go to always be with us. Because both shepherds and magi were received by Jesus, we know that also all of us are invited to come along and be with Jesus, just as Jesus is with us.

So, now we look forward to the unknown of the new year. Though we were blessed in many ways in 2009, many are hoping for a better economic outlook for 2010. Our hope is that we all shall find a more pleasant future ahead of us, and that the unknowns that are ahead of us in the new year might be good things.

But, what we know for certain is that Jesus will be with us.

What more could be really ask for from God? With that one statement of fact, we march into the new year with hope. With that one truth in our pocket, we know that we shall weather any storms that may blow our way. With that one certainty, we know that love and grace can abound.

Praise be to God: God is with us! God really is, always, absolutely, with us. Ken .
